SAMAL, Bataan: Catholics in a village here marked Easter Sunday with the traditional but colorful “salubong” between the Images of the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary.

The ritual at the St. Vincent Ferrer Parish Church in Barangay West Calaguiman in Samal started with a Holy Mass and followed with separate processions for the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary.

The processions ended in front of the church where a teenaged girl dressed as an angel removed the black veil from the Image of the Virgin Mary. This ends Mary’s sorrow and marks the start of joyful celebration after Christ rose from the dead.

As the veil was removed, a big number of angel-like children and teenaged women sang and danced at the improvised elevated stage while showering the area with flowers.

With the unveiling of Mary, her Image then stood face to face with the Image of the Risen Christ as a short fireworks display followed with the big crowd clapping.

Rev. Fr. Rene de Leon is the parish priest of St. Vincent Ferrer Church. (30)
