ANGELES CITY – Councilor Edu Pamintuan has filed an ordinance requiring car wash businesses to install sewer system as part of the city government’s aggressive campaign to protect the environment.
Pamintuan, chairman of the city council’s committee on environment, said “it’s high time we exert more effort to ensure a bright future and healthy environment for the next generation.”
“Car wash discharges water through the city drainage system and some water waste penetrates through leaks that contaminates soil and groundwater, pollutes the river system and contributes to the deterioration of the asphalt roads,” said Pamintuan in his proposed ordinance.
“Waste water also pollutes ground water with oil or lubricants and other chemicals.
To drastically reduce the environmental impact from car wash operations, wastewater should be filtered to remove the solid wastes and pre-treated to reduce contaminants in compliance to effluent quality standards before discharging to the drainage system,” added Pamintuan.
Pamintuan disclosed that the public hearing for his ordinance will start “soon.”
“They are just setting the schedule as we have many work in the council,” he said.
