CABANATUAN CITY – The conduct of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) was generally peaceful in Nueva Ecija, police said.

This, amid allegations of vote-buying in several of the province’s 495 villages.

Col. Richard Caballero, director of the Nueva Ecija Police Provincial Office, said no untoward incident relative to the BSKE has been reported as of press time.

Caballero made the rounds on polling places Monday.

Meanwhile, hundreds of Dumagat tribesmen from the mountainous areas of Barangay Rio Chico in Gen. Tinio participated in the voting of village and youth officials.

Tribal chieftain Ben Belmonte said he travelled for almost four hours from the mountainous sitio Mapidya, Rio Chico by motorcycle.

They had to stay somewhere in the village for early travel back home the day after the voting. “Meron kaming tutulugan” he said, without specifying.

Reports said at least 300 of them did cast their votes.

Provincial election supervisor lawyer Rommel Rama said all precincts in the province’s 849 villages opened at 7 a.m.

No untoward incident was reported as of press time, Rama said.
