CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – International award-winning director Brillante Mendoza and officials of SM Supermalls led the launching of “My City, My SM, My Cuisine” last week, highlighting Kapampangans’ ingenuity in cooking authentic Filipino dishes.

At least 10 contestants joined the cooking competition, producing the best Bringhe and Tibok Tibok – two of the most popular Christmas and New Year Filipino cuisine.

Jasmin Lopez, a family cook from Barangay San Agustin in this city, won the “Best Bringhe” while Edna Canlas,a former teacher at St. Scholastica’s Academy in Angeles City won the Best “Tibok Tibok”. Both received gift cards from SM Supermalls.

“This year, Ms. Millie [Dizon] and her group is at it again bringing to SM and its shoppers the leg of a series of My City My SM campaigns, focusing this time on an important, if not popular, aspect of a provinces’ culture – its food,” said SM City Pampanga Mall Manager Lana Eroba. Ms. Dizon is the Marketing Communications Group vice president of SM Supermalls.

Eroba said that Director Mendoza and Miss World First Princess Nicolette Henson were the endorsers during the first My City My SM event held in SM City Pampanga in 2009.

This year, she said they have partnered with The Philippine Star, SM Homeworld, and with the Metropolitan Museum of the Philippines headed by Ms. Corazon Alvina.

Among the endorsers of My City, My SM, My cuisine 2011 include Atching Lilian Borromeo, a known local culinary expert; and Pocholo Jorolan of Everybody’s Café.

Everybody’s Café is one of the most popular restaurants in Pampanga that serves authentic Kapampangan food and the famous “Batirol” chocolate.

“Food is heritage and it tells so much about people. It sustains many communities and groups,” says Ms. Alvina.

My City, My SM, My Cuisine is also expected to feature other dishes and will be launched in other provinces like Cebu, Iloilo, Baguio and at Clark Freeport next year.

Eroba also noted that SM’s project is part of its “serious campaign in uncovering the colorful history, diverse culture, scenic attractions and the wonderful people of our host provinces.”

“Culminating the event here at SM City Pampanga for the year 2011 only marks the beginning of another whole year of celebrating authentic Filipino cuisine,” she added.
