MABALACAT, Pampanga – Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales is expected to be re-elected today as his projects improving education would be the factor against his three rivals.

This was the assessment of Morales’ supporters as they cast their votes in the first-ever automated elections in the country.

San Joaquin Barangay Captain Davidson David said at least 1,000 young people in their village have benefited from the elementary and high school public schools, including the newly-established secondary school and college in nearby Barangay Dolores.

“The schools are strategically located. My constituents need not ride a public transport to reach the nearest school,” said David.

“Boking is a sure winner because of his projects for education. Besides, he is a man of for all and he is kind and generous,” he added.

Morales first became a mayor in 1995. Since then, he had established at least nine more public schools in this first class municipality.

In 2008, Morales established the Mabalacat Community College (MCC), the first-ever community college in Pampanga operated by the local government unit (LGU).

Students of MCC who reside in Barangay Dau said they are “happy because we are assured of getting a college education despite being poor.”

“If we graduate, we can certainly help the rest in the family to have better lives,” they added.

Morales, for his part, agreed with the assessment that he will be re-elected.

Morales said independent groups which made the latest surveys had found out that he “is leading with 68 percentage points against the three other contenders.”

“I will definitely win,” said Morales, adding that he prioritized education because “it’s only the way to help people fight poverty.”

“Education is the key to progress,” he added.

Morales also said he funded the construction of 43 classrooms in Barangay Dolores for the MCC.

He also said that he tapped private firms to help him send more students to MCC as part of the municipal government’s scholarship program.

No less than governor bet Lilia “Baby” Pineda of the Lakas-CMD-Kampi party lauded Morales for the establishment of the MCC during her recent visit in the first class municipality.

“The MCC is definitely pro-poor,” said Pineda.

The former senior board member and Lubao mayor vowed to support the MCC once elected as governor.

With the help of Xevera-Mabalacat developer Delfin Lee, Morales started the operations of the MCC using the classrooms of the subdivision in Barangay Tabun. He will transfer the MCC at its permanent site in Dolores.
