CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) cited its partners in advancing the fisheries sector of Central Luzon.
About 30 cooperatives, associations, and local government units received citations.
BFAR Regional Director Wilfredo Cruz said the agency would not be able to achieve the abundant harvest without the support of the awardees.
“Each fisherfolk community here in Central Luzon has a unique contribution in increasing the production of prime fish commodities where we are top producers in the country. This gathering is our way to recognize your support to the fishing industry in our region,” he emphasized.
Commodities include milkfish (bangus) from Zambales; tilapia from Pampanga; shrimp, prawns, and shellfish from Bulacan and Bataan; and tuna from Aurora.
Data from Philippine Statistics Authority show that the fish sufficiency of the region is at 110 percent. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
