SAMAL, Bataan — The rural health unit of this town joined Thursday the earthquake drill conducted simultaneously in various areas of the country.

Rural health midwife Lolita Poblete said that municipal health officer Dr. Cristina Espino led in the drill held at the Samal RHU and lying-in center starting at 9 in the morning.

The midwife said not only health workers but persons undergoing consultation participated in the exercise. They did the duck, cover, and hold routine under the chairs and tables and then orderly and quietly got out of the center with both hands over their heads.

Poblete said the RHU employees and visitors were advised to observe minimum public health standards during the drill that she said was the first face-to-face since the pandemic caused by the coronavirus disease.

She said that different offices of the Samal local government unit headed by Mayor Alex Acuzar and the municipal police station under Major Jimmy Albert Decin also participated in the simultaneous nationwide drill.

The Office of Civil Defense has urged the public to join the exercise. The OCD initiated the ceremonial pressing of the button for the execution of duck, cover and hold through a live social media page.
