BALANGA C
ITY — Bataan has P10 million to boost and revive swine production after the onslaught of the African swine fever last year, the provincial veterinary office announced Tuesday.

Provincial veterinarian Dr. Alberto Venturina said P5million come from the national government through the Department of Agriculture while the other P5million from the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU).

He explained that the fund from the national government will be awarded to a registered cooperative in the province while BPSU will use its own fund. The coop will start with 30 mature sows.

Both the cooperative and the only university in the province will raise hogs and the female piglets will be distributed to interested backyard farmers under the multiplier farm program.

Venturina said he has created a disinfection team to disinfect pig pens preparing for re-stocking.

He said that at present, there is no reported ASF in any part of the province but that they have been disinfecting public markets, slaughterhouses, and even vehicles used in the transport of pigs.

The veterinarian said only Bataan in the whole of Central Luzon has two kolong-kolong equipped with disinfectant and power spray used in disinfection.

“Iminungkahi ko ito kay Gov. Albert Garcia at agad niya kaming sinuportahan dahil nakita niya ang magandang resulta nito,” Venturina said.

He assured the public that they are following safety protocols on the coronavirus disease in their activities.
