BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The 6-day celebration of Bataan Day started Thursday with the opening of the Galing Bataan Trade Fair and the unveiling of World War II diorama at the capitol ground here.

For the first time in a big provincial activity, a group of Aeta children known as the Magbikin Bangkal Choir from the Negrito village in Abucay, Bataan sang the Philippine National Anthem

Later, they also sang “Ang Bayan Kong Pilipinas” that drew loud applauses from the big crowd

A known businessman in the field of construction, Chairman of the Board Gerry Acuzar of New San Jose Builders, was the guest of honor and speaker held at the Bulwagan ng Bayan.

Various activities will be held from April 2 to 7 culminating on Tuesday at the Mount Samat Shrine in Pilar, Bataan in observance of the 67th Araw ng Kagitingan. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is expected to lead the wreath-laying at the Dambana ng Kagitingan with ambassadors to the Philippines, United States and Japan.

Gov. Enrique Garcia said the annual trade fair will showcase products raised or made in 11 towns and one city from the historic peninsula. Among the products are araro cookies, dried and smoked fish, bignay and duhat wine, kasuy nuts, walis tambo, bags and pillow case, among others.

The diorama features life-sized images of civilians and Filipino, American and Japanese soldiers before and during World War II in 1941 and 1942.

Bataan fell to the Japanese invaders on April 9, 1942 but because of the Holy Week, the celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan at Mt. Samat was moved to April 7.

Other activities for the event include foot parade, parade of floats that will feature events during the war, tribute to WWII surviving veterans, cultural dances and quiz contests.
