Army officer nabbed for extorting P30-T

    CASTILLEJOS, Zambales – Police nabbed an intelligence officer of the Philippine Army disguised as member of the New People’s Army (NPA) for extorting a total of P30,000 from a farm manager. 

    PNP-SAF, 315th Zambales Provincial Mobile Group and Castillejos PNP conducted the entrapment operation at Sitio Mawao, Barangay San Pablo, this town Thursday night.

    Sr. Supt. Rolando Felix, Zambales Provincial Police Office (ZPPO), director, identified the suspect as Pfc. Ronald Tumbali, 31, assigned at Charley Company, 3rd Infantry Battalion, 7th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army based at Sitio Dulit, Barangay Nagbunga, this town.

    Supt. Jerry Sumbad, 315th Mobile Group director, said at about 11:00 p.m., suspect was arrested by the police upon receiving P10,000 from a police poseur employee of ARBI Farm in Sitio Mawao, Barangay San Pablo.

    A certain Pfc. Bautista, the suspect’s cohort eludes arrest during entrapment operation and now being hunted by the police.

    The report added that the suspect disguised himself as a NPA member last November, 2008 and started demanding money from Farm Manager Philip Pangan.

    Pangan said he gave the suspect P20,000 but the latter has asked another P10,000 on the following day prompting police operatives to conduct entrapment operation.

    Recovered from suspect’s possession include P10,000 mark money and one caliber 45 pistol with  two magazine loaded with live bullets without license.

    Suspect was detained at Castillejos detention cell facing charges violation of robbery extortion, grave threats and RA 8294 (illegal possession of firearms and ammunitions) before Assistant Provincial Prosecutor Joy Bayona.
