TARLAC CITY — The Aquino Center and Museum opened its doors to the public for free on Wednesday in observance of the 43rd death anniversary of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
Visitors were able to view documents, photographs, and other memorabilia of the late opposition leader at the museum in Tarlac City. Among those who visited were youth, students, teachers, nuns, and families who traveled from different places to pay tribute to Aquino.
According to Karen Cabrera, center manager of the Aquino Center and Museum, this is the second time the museum has offered free admission to the public in commemoration of Ninoy’s death anniversary.
Since the museum reopened last year, it has remained free to visitors every year on the day of Ninoy’s death for those who want to learn more about his life and contributions to history.
On display are Ninoy’s personal items, writings, and the clothes he was wearing when he was shot at the Manila International Airport.
For this year’s commemoration, the museum also opened film viewings that have never been shown before.
Cabrera said Ninoy’s sacrifice in the struggle against the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos continues to resonate with the public.
Meanwhile, Sr. Gina Salas, a principal in Tarlac City, said her group regularly visits the museum, especially on Ninoy’s death anniversary, to honor his sacrifice for the nation.
She added that Ninoy’s spirit remains alive among Filipinos and that the museum serves as an important educational resource for students because historical documents and memorabilia are preserved there.
