ANGELES CITY – Thousands of runners from Manila, Northern and Central Luzon are expected to join the 2012 Milo marathon 4th Leg in this city on July 22.
Rosever Pascua, head of the Angeles City Sports Office (ACSO), said officials and organizers of the said event have already made an ocular inspection here on Monday (April 16).
“We are expecting at least 5,000 – 8,000 runners coming from different parts of Luzon for the 21k, 10k, 5k and 3k categories,” he said. “But we are urging other organizations and groups to join the event.”
Milo marathon is considered as one of the most prestigious running events in the country participated by students, athletes, enthusiasts and members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The first leg is expected to be held in Baguio City; second leg in Dagupan City, then next in Tarlac; and finally the last leg here – all scheduled in July.
Pascua said that proceeds from the event will be used to buy additional sports equipment for various teams who will compete and represent this city in next year’s Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA).
This city recently bagged the 3rd overall champion in the CLRAA (secondary division) held in Zambales last February.
In 2010, this city placed 5th in the overall standing, improving its rank from 10th place in 2009 under the administration of former mayor Blueboy Nepomuceno.
Pascua also said that those who are interested to join can register at the ACSO office in City Hall.
