ANGELES CITY – A lone suspect armed with an M-16 rifle shot to death an Angeles cop just before midnight on Wednesday in barangay Pulung Bulu here.
Senior Supt. Danny Bautista, city police director, identified the victim as SPO3 Rolly Reyes who was detailed at the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) headquarters in barangay Sto. Domingo.
Police investigators said Reyes was talking and drinking with his brother-in-law at the Elvie’s store compound in Purok 4, Pulung Bulu, when a male suspect armed with a rifle shot him several times. They added that the policeman died on the spot infront of his wife’s brother, Melencio Paras.
Police said the suspect “casually entered the compound” and fled on board a gray colored van after committing the crime.
Bautista said they had “initially eyed personal motive behind the crime.”
He disclosed that Reyes’ house in Mabato, Pulung Bulu was strafed by unidentified gunmen two years ago.
“However, we are not discounting other motives,” said Bautista.
Bautista said they had launched a man-hunt for the arrest of the suspect.
He said they created a task force to handle the killing of Reyes.
