ANGELES CITY– The Angeles City Peace and Order Council (ACPOC) has banned the sale and distribution of firecrackers in this highly-urbanized city.

In a unanimous resolution yesterday, the ACPOC voted for a “total ban” on firecrackers for “health and safety reasons” and “in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte.”

“Because of this resolution, the selling and distribution of fi recrackers within the City of Angeles is henceforth prohibited. The Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD) will not process any application,” said Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan.

“Individuals may still celebrate the coming New Year with the legally allowed pyrotechnics and other noise-making devices such as horns, sirens and the like but all form of firecrackers are no longer allowed in this city,” he added.

Pamintuan also said he would also get in touch with malls and big hotels in the city “to request them to conduct their own displays of pyrotechnics during the New Year celebration.”

“Many malls and establishments have fireworks displays for this holiday season. The general public may watch them from their homes or join the revelry,” he said.

Pamintuan stressed that “the important thing is that we can celebrate the changing of the years with the health and safety of our constituents as the primordial consideration.”
