CLARK FREEPORT – In what it claimed as its largest illegal drug apprehension for 2023, the Burau of Customs-Port of Clark seized 8,126 grams of shabu with an estimated value of P56,069,400.
In a post in its social media page on Dec. 26, BOC-Clark said a shipment declared as “dry food” which arrived here from California, USA on Dec. 17 was subjected to “rigorous X-ray screening and K9 sniffing,” after it was tagged with “a derogatory information from PDEA.”
A physical examination resulted in the discovery of eight brown heat-sealed plastic bags containing the illegal substance. Subsequent “PDEA chemical laboratory analysis confirmed that the substance is methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, a dangerous drug under RA 9165.”
During a controlled delivery operation in Cavite on Dec. 19, one male claimant of the shipment was arrested by elements from the BOC and PDEA.
BOC-Clark district collector Erastus Sandino Austria issued a warrant of seizure and detention against the subject shipment for violation of RA 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act) in relation to RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
“This arrest only shows that we are steadfast and firm in our efforts to protect the health of our people against the harmful effects of the illicit trade of drugs in the country,” said Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio. BOC-Clark
