Airgun gets man in trouble

SAN JOSE CITY – A 32-year-old man has found himself in deep trouble for reportedly carrying an airgun outside residence in Barangay Sto. Tomas here Wednesday.

Police identified the suspect as Joel Oria of of Barangay Abar 1st, also of this northern Nueva Ecija city.

Investigation showed Oria was caught by patrolling police operatives walking with the airgun called “eskopeta” in the said place at around 3:15 p.m. on Aug. 30. The suspect also yielded 10 pellets for the air gun. 

Police have earlier warned that even toy guns o replicas of firearms are covered by the election gun ban being implemented for the forthcoming Oct. 30 barangay and sangguniang kabataan elections. 

Charges for violations of the Omnibus Election Code are being prepared against the suspect, police said.

Oria is the second to have been charged of violating the gun ban. The first was a 58-year-old tricycle driver reportedly caught with a .38 revolver at a checkpoint in Barangay San Fernando Sur, Cabiao.
