ORANI, Bataan: Senator Win Gatchalian declared here Saturday, August 12, that he appreciated President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s pronouncement that the country has a master plan to speedily address climate change, including the construction of a big water dam for flood prevention and agricultural improvement.

Gatchalian stressed the need for government to undertake effective flood control program that would protect villages from the outcome of climate change.

“Due to the adverse impact of climate change on our communities, the government needs to provide adequate flood control structures that would provide vulnerable areas with ample protection from the devastating effect of floods,” he said.

“Ang pagsasaayos ng flood control ay napakahalagang hakbang lalo na sa bansang tulad natin na madalas tamaan ng bagyo at madalas bahain. Dahil sa epekto ng climate change, magiging balakid ang ganitong mga pagbaha sa pag-unlad ng bansa kung hindi ito agarang masosolusyunan,” Gatchalian added.

The senator was in Bataan to check on the damage left by typhoons Egay and Falcon and gave rice worth P1 million received by Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia 3rd.

The assistance to Bataan was part of the P8.5M-worth of rice provided by the local government of Valenzuela for typhoon victims in Pangasinan, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan where several municipalities were placed under state of calamity.

The whole province of Bataan was declared under a state of calamity.

Gatchalian said rice worth P5.2M were distributed in Malolos, Calumpit, Hagonoy, Balagtas, Paombong, Obando, San Miguel, Guiguinto, Pandi and Plaridel in Bulacan through Gov. Daniel Fernando.

Pangasinan, the senator said, received P1.25M-worth of rice while Bataan and Pampanga through Gov. Dennis Pineda got P1M each.
