Mayor orders schools to stop field trips

    SUBIC, Zambales — Mayor Jefferson Khonghun has issued an order to all public and private schools in Subic to refrain from holding field trips, both compulsory or non-compulsory, for the safety of all students and to spare parents from additional financial burden.

    This, in the wake of the deadly accident that took the lives of 14 students of Best College Philippines and their driver last week in Tanay, Rizal.

    In his order dated February 22, 2017, Konghun recalled several tragic field trips that are recorded in the county.

    In 2013, seven students from Marinduque State College died when their bus collided with a 14-wheeler truck along Marcos Highway going to Baguio City.

    In 2014, seven tourism students from Bulacan State University drowned as they were crossing Madlum River going to Madlum Cave in San Miguel, Bulacan.

    On February 8, 2016, a bus ran over high school students of the Holy Spirit Academy during field trip at Camp Mateo Capinpin killing one of them.
