Leading digitally-enabled customer experience and business process solutions provider TELUS International Philippines has announced that the TELUS International Philippines Community Board—the company’s fund-granting foundation that looks for worthy causes to support communities with unique needs—is accepting grant applications from non-profit and charitable organizations until June 9 for Q2 and September 15 for Q3. In 2022, the TELUS International Philippines Community Board provided over Php 6.2 million in grants to 14 non-profit organizations that focused on education and livelihood programs which helped more than 4,400 beneficiaries around the country.
This program is a testament to TELUS International Philippines’ longstanding commitment to helping those in need and to building inclusive and resilient communities. Since 2012, the company’s donations and volunteer activities have made a profound impact on the lives of thousands of Filipinos in areas such as education, health, and the environment.
“Giving back has become a huge part of who we are, and we are working relentlessly to help address the needs of our communities,” said Phoebe Carrera, Corporate Social Responsibility Senior Manager at TELUS International Philippines. “Over the last 11 years, we have been actively looking out for opportunities to provide support to a wide range of community programs through the TELUS International Philippines Community Board. To date, we’ve contributed more than Php 50 million to 133 projects, charities, and organizations throughout the Philippines.”
Supporting community partners where we live and work
In 2022, the TELUS International Philippines Community Board helped improve the lives of 4,492 Filipinos through the support of 14 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), including PadyaRescue Incorporated and Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development.
PadyaRescue Incorporated is an NGO based in Pangasinan that aims to build healthier and more disaster-resilient communities. Through their initiative Go Bike Project, young volunteers travel within their own communities on bikes to deliver first aid and basic medical support, such as blood pressure monitoring, first aid, and blood sugar testing. Support from the TELUS International Philippines Community Board has helped train 130 youth volunteers to deliver these critical services to rural Filipino communities.
“We are immensely grateful to the TELUS International Philippines Community Board for helping us respond to health emergencies and disasters. It has long been our desire to expand our projects in other municipalities, and we are glad that we are moving in that direction,” said Edren Llanillo, Executive Director of PadyaRescue Incorporated.
The TELUS International Philippines Community Board also aided the Center for Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (CARRD), a not-for-profit organization supporting agrarian reform beneficiaries and their cooperatives whose goal is to enhance the quality of life of smallholder farming households.
In a bid to deliver medical healthcare to farming communities, CARRD utilized their grant in purchasing much-needed medical supplies, mobilization of health coordinators, and the improvement of telehealth stations. The telehealth project facilitated 246 telehealth consultations for 232 farmers and their families within five months. By providing subsidies for medicines and laboratory tests, the project also lessened the financial burden of several households.
“All of these initiatives have improved the health and well-being of the farmers and their families thanks to TELUS International Philippines. We could clearly see how important the project has been to the community, especially those who expressed that despite feeling ill, they are sometimes forced to leave it untreated due to financial constraints,” shared Marie Joy Demaluan, Executive Director at CARRD.
The TELUS International Philippines Community Board has contributed significantly to meeting the evolving needs of many communities, and there are still a myriad of promising initiatives in the country that are challenged with resources, where TELUS International Philippines is looking to take its “we give where we live” philosophy further.
“We strongly urge non-profit and charitable organizations to continue making a positive impact by applying for project funding through our TELUS International Philippines Community Board, as well as attending our grant writing workshops to improve their proposals,” said Carrera.
