CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is intensifying the enforcement of the Anti-Overloading Law across major thoroughfares in Central Luzon.
The agency is looking to update the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the law to accommodate new truck configurations and higher maximum gross vehicle weight limits.
DPWH Assistant Regional Director Denise Maria Ayag said trucks and trailers must only be loaded within the prescribed gross vehicle weight.
In addition, no axle load should exceed 13,500 kilograms.
Ayag shared that they are continuously coordinating with local government units in the region to help in the enforcement of the law.
“Here in Central Luzon, we can see that the implementation of the Anti-Overloading Law was successful due to the initiative of Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda who enjoined quarry operators and truckers to abide by the law. In Nueva Ecija, there is also a truck weighing operation near its boundary with Tarlac,” he said.
DPWH likewise established three permanent weighing stations placed in strategic locations where loaded trucks from adjacent regions usually pass through.
These include one in the municipality of Capas in Tarlac for those coming from Ilocos Region, another in the city of Gapan in Nueva Ecija for those coming from Cagayan Valley, and the town of Guiguinto in Bulacan for those who got through Capas and Gapan without being weighed.
Ayag added that special operations are also conducted to ensure compliance of trucks to the weight limit, like the one in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija.
Aside from local government units, DPWH also regularly coordinates with other national government agencies including Philippine National Police, Land Transportation Office, and Department of the Interior and Local Government.
“We are continuously working to ensure the effectiveness of the anti-overloading operation in the region. We will not stop until truckers understand and support us wholeheartedly in our cause to prevent the excess weight that passes through our bridges and roads which causes deterioration of these infrastructure and inconveniences motorists,” Ayag stressed.
