CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga (PIA) — Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Central Luzon warns the public against individuals using the agency’s name to illegally collect money.
“We wish to inform the public that a solicitation letter bearing the logo of the department, and the name and forged signature of Assistant Secretary for Luzon Affairs Marites Maristela has been making rounds in Tarlac to collect solicitations,” DSWD Regional Director Jonathan Dirain said.
He added that the letter also claims that the alleged Development for the Blind Welfare of the Philippines, Inc. was granted permit to solicit for their livelihood projects from January 10 to March 15, 2023.
Reports said the suspects were able to collect P26,000 from different individuals and organizations.
With this, DSWD denies the authenticity of the letter and stressed that its main objective is to discredit the agency by illegally gaining funds.
The agency is investigating the incident and will take appropriate actions, as necessary.
Meanwhile, Dirain reminds the public to be vigilant against scammers.
The public is encouraged to report any similar form of incidence from a person or group and verify if an agency is registered with DSWD through fo3@dswd.gov.ph, 0949-185-3156, 0915 074-9245; or through the DSWD FO III Facebook page. (CLJD/MJSC-PIA 3)
