BALANGA CITY — There will be no classes in all levels in both public and private schools and no work in government and private offices in Bataan on Jan. 11, Wednesday, being the 266th Foundation Day of the province.

RA 11138 has declared January 11 of every year as a special non-working holiday to be known as Bataan Foundation Day.

A trade fair opened Monday at the Capitol compound to signal the start – after a two-year halt due to the pandemic – of the simple but memorable commemoration of the day when Bataan was declared a separate province from Pampanga on Jan. 11, 1757.

The Galing ng Bataeño Trade Fair is located in front of the old Capitol building, now housing the provincial health office. The new seat of the provincial government, the stunning structure known as The Bunker, is at the back of PHO.

The trade fair that will last until January 13, offers for sale various items produced in Bataan that Gov. Jose Enrique Garcia III and Vice Gov. Cris Garcia described as products the province can be proud of in the whole country.

The public can choose from an array of fresh fruits and vegetables, plants, house decorations, bags, clothes, food items, among some others, produced and raised in 11 towns and one city in Bataan.

Among the food items are peanuts, bukayo, cassava cake, ensaymada, peanut butter, chocolate cake, araro cookies, cassava cookies, camote chips, ginger brew turmeric, banana chips, cashew butter, cashew nuts, pickled green chili, pickled mango, pickled papaya, buko juice, and buko pie.

Also available are cocoa, coffee, chocolate, tapsilog, butter milk, pastillas de leche, fresh milk, dried dilis, pusit, bagoong, dried and smoked fish, including tinapang bangus.

Offered also are dishwashing liquid, fabric softener, car shampoo, hand soap, dog shampoo, linen spray, scented candles, bedsheets, clothes, slippers, rugs, potholders, bags, souvenirs, handicrafts, paintings and lanterns made from capiz shells.

On Wednesday night, Mayonnaise and other bands will provide entertainment in what is dubbed as the “Gabi ng Musika at Selebrasyon” at the Bataan People’s Center. Entrance is free.
