SAMAL, Bataan: The Department of Agriculture on Saturday started distributing free palay seeds to rice farmers in Bataan in time for the summer cropping season from November 2022 to March 2023.
In the town of Samal, farmers got their palay seeds stored at the warehouse owned by town Mayor Alexander Acuzar in Barangay Calaguiman.
“Ang mga binhing palay ay nanggaling sa RCEP o Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund ng Department of Agricuture,” Samal municipal agriculture technologist Genezareth Macahilig said.
He said that for the initial distribution were 800 bags of palay seeds of varieties 218, 436 and 160 good for 400 hectares in Barangays Lalawigan, Calaguiman, Sta. Lucia, Sapa, San Juan, Ibaba, Gugo and Imelda.
“Ang ipinagkakaloob sa magsasaka ay dalawang bag na tig-40 kilos sa bawat ektarya,” Macahilig said.
Farmers were grateful for the assistance given them. “Maraming salamat sa bigay na binhi ng gobyerno,” farmer Delia Mojica of Barangay Sta. Lucia said.
“Napakalaking tulong nito sa mga magsasaka lalo na sa nasalanta ng bagyong Paeng. Sana patuloy na tulungan ang mga magsasaka para sila makabangon,” said Sta.Lucia Kagawad Norberto Buan, Sangguniang Barangay chair on Agriculture. (30)
