“There are so many things to be done in the labor sector. We seriously lack jobs in the country, “ Marcos said in a press conference during his whole-day campaign sortie in this province yesterday.
“Many things await to be done without passing new laws and new programs. All we have to do is to maximize the efficiency of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and its attached agencies so that as many people as possible can be helped, “ he said.
Marcos noted that this school year alone, some 1.2 million students are graduating from college without assurance of corresponding employment for them.
He also lamented that about 5,000 Filipinos leave the country daily for jobs abroad, amid the failure of the government to extend full help to overseas Filipino workers who land in jail or fall victims to accidents abroad.
“Our consulates must be given funds to help these OFW’s,” he said, as he lamented the failure of the government to use some P18 billion funds contributed by OFW’s to help those in need in foreign lands.
Marcos also decried labor contractualization in the country, despite provisions in the Labor Code prohibiting such practice. “There have been many contractualization cases won against management, but the government is not doing enough to protect workers,” he added.
