CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Some 400 families illegally settled on banks of waterways in this city were awarded Monday keys to their new houses at San Fernando Heights in Barangay Malpitic.
The families lived along waterways in Barangays Saguin, San Jose, Pandaras, Del Rosario, San Agustin and San Pedro . The structures they built are now being demolished along the San Fernando River, San Agustin Creek, Saguin Creek, and Balimbing Creek.
“This move is pursuant to the Supreme Court mandamus of clearing all waterways in the Manila Bay area,” Mayor Edwin Santiago said. Santiago led the ceremonial turn-over of the keys to the beneficiaries, as witnessed by Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Oscar S. Rodriguez and National Housing Authority Deputy Area Manager Romuel Alimbuyao.
“You are now the model community of the city for never again will you be called informal settlers,” Santiago told the recipients. San Fernando Electric Corp. and San Fernando Water District have been rushing with electric and water connections in the new housing project.
