ANGELES CITY – A newly organized local political party has endorsed the candidacies of incumbent Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and his Vice Mayor Vicky Vega Cabigting for the May 2013 mid-term elections.
In their first city assembly here, leaders and members of the Partido Abe Kapampangan(ABE) also approved a resolution adopting Vice Governor Joseller ‘Yeng’ Guiao as the party’s official candidate for congressman in the 1st district of Pampanga.
Local media and some other urban poor sectors, however, are reported to be backing the vice mayoral bid of councilor Jay Sangil, also an ally of Pamintuan.
ABE president Alex Cauguiran said his party also nominated and proclaimed the candidacies of incumbent city councilors Edu Pamintuan, Jericho Aguas, Maricel Morales, Alex Indiongco and Arvin Suller. It also endorsed the candidacies for former councilors Ruben Maniago, Carlito Ganzon and Romeo Taruc.
Amos Rivera, head of the city’s Local Urban Poor Affairs and Housing Office (LUPAHO) and Danica Lacson, SK chairman of barangay Lourdes Northwest were also nominated for the city council candidacies.
Pamintuan is expected to be challenged by former ally 1st District Rep. Carmelo Lazatin who will run as independent mayoralty candidate. He recently allied with ex-adversary, former mayor Francis Nepomuceno who is expected to file anytime his candidacy for the post Lazatin now occupies.
Pamintuan is supporting the congressional bid of Vice Gov. Joseller Guiao in the same district.
Cauguiran said ABE’s official candidates were chosen based on their belief and support to the party’s principles and advocacies including parity and equitability in development, participatory governance, efficiency in the delivery of basic services and transparency and accountability.”
In his speech, Pamintuan acknowledged all the party officers and members “for all their hardwork and firm resolve to ensure the success and victories of the party and the city administration.”
“We believe that we have a good team that can pursue what we have started. Angeles City needs leaders who can deliver and ensure that government services shall at all time, be readily available and accessible to all the Angeleños,” Pamintuan said.
Cabigting expressed her gratitude to Pamintuan and to “all party officers and members for the trust and their firm belief in her ability to work towards achieving the party’s goals and principles.”
