SAN JOSE CITY – An alleged thief was killed in a gunfight with the police after a brief chase ensuing from his allegedly snatching a tricycle in Barangay Camanacsacan here at around 3:50 a.m. Sunday.
Police said the suspect identified as Bunny Joson of Barangay Sibut this city sped off when flagged down in an Oplan Sita checkpoint and thereafter engaged authorities to a gunfight.
“The subject motorcycle was spotted and flagged down for verification but the suspect refused to stop,” police said in its report to the provincial police headquarters.
Investigators from the provincial police crime laboratory office recovered from the area a home-made .38 revolver and the stolen trike.
Police would not immediately disclose the victim of the carnapping.
The incident occurred a few hours after checkpoints were established nationwide to implement a gun ban in connection with the forthcoming national and local elections.
