CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – An MPC Inter-barangay Mobile Legends (ML) Tournament is being staged in Porac from Dec. 3 to 5 through the sponsorship of 2nd District Board Member Mylyn Pineda Cayabyab with the games on live stream from the Municipal Command Center in Barangay Jalung.
Coming after Lubao and Guagua, the Porac event is the third leg in the series of tournaments in each of the towns of the district culminating in an intertown competition where the winners of each town will compete for the district championships.
Each of the barangays in the town has sent one team composed of six members who will compete while observing strict quarantine protocols.
The ML Tournament is Pineda-Cayabyab’s alternative to contact sports like basketball, which have been set aside due to quarantine restrictions.
Pineda-Cayabyab said the event is her way of helping promote mental wellness amid the pandemic. She said the ongoing ML Tournament is an avenue to remind students to prioritize their studies and finish their modules before engaging into e-sports.
“ML is the least we could have in place of contact sports,” the lady board member said, adding that many in the youth sector also long for the usual contact sports and competitions, which are still not allowed due to dangers of coronavirus infection.
Pineda-Cayabyab had placed in some P40,000 worth of prizes for the event. The champion is set to bring home P10,000, while the first to third runners-up will bring home some P7,000, P5,000 and P3,000, respectively.
Teams with the best posters will also receive P3,000 for the first prize, P2,000 for the second, and P1,000 for the third. Several prizes were also set for live stream viewers. Championship games for the e-sports event will be on Sunday, December 5. Each of the finalists will undergo swab testing courtesy of the board member before the actual games. MPC-IG
