CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Seven accredited swine multiplier farms in Central Luzon signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 3 for the implementation of the agency’s Swine Repopulation Project.

Leading the signing pf the tri-partite agreement at the DA Region 3 office here on Oct. 12 were regional executive director Eduardo L. Lapuz, Jr., regional technical director for operations, extension, and Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division head Dr. Arthur D. Dayrit, and regional livestock coordinator Gil G. David.

The multiplier farms that signed the MOA were NF Elite Hog Farm, Inc. of Palauig and T&G Enterprise of San Narciso, both in Zambales; Global Essential Foods, Inc. (Forestiera Farm) of Sta. Maria, Bulacan; JJK Farms of Magalang, Pampanga; Betterdays Livestock Farm of San Ildefonso and San Rafael, Bulacan; Saint Francis Integrated Farm of Gapan City and Mirsan Piggery Farm of Cabanatuan City, both in Nueva Ecija.

The swine repopulation initiative is included in the National Animal Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) and Hog Industry Roadmap pursuant to RA 12308 (Animal Industry Development and Competitiveness Act), RA 8435 (Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act of 1997), and DA Memorandum Circular No. 10 and No. 25, Series of 2026.

Under the agreement, the multiplier farms will receive quality F1 (Large White/Yorkshire x Landrace) sows to serve as breeding sites to increase the pig population in region in the wake of the adverse effects of the African swine fever disease.

In return for the government support, the farms are obligated to give back no less than three female piglets for every sow they received within the first two birthing cycles. The piglets had to be eight to 10 weeks old, weighing from 20 to 25 kilos, with complete vaccination and deworming, and certified as health by a licensed government veterinarian. These will in turn be distributed to qualified small pig farms in the region.

The multiplier farms were likewise required to maintain Biosecurity Level II or higher, comply with ASF zoning, and submit monthly reports of their production and inventory.

DA Region 3 will supervise the monitoring of operations in coordination with local government units, and facilitate the transport of the livestock while the Bureau of Animal Industry will supervise the overall regulations, livestock health and general direction of the project in coordination with the National Livestock Program.
