ABUCAY, Bataan — Movie and television comedian Teri Onor on Wednesday filed his certificate of candidacy for vice-mayor of this town in a team-up with his grandmother who is reclaiming the mayoral post in the May 2022 elections.
Onor, Dexter Dominguez in real life, began his political career when he became vice-mayor of Abucay in 2007 and later as one of the 10 members of the sangguniang panlalawigan.
Now, he said, he is returning in the political arena with his “lola” Ana Santiago, who is eyeing the mayoral post presently held by husband Mayor Liberato “Pambato” Santiago.
When Pambato finished his first three terms, Ana took over and also completed three terms after which the husband again ran and won. On his third term, Pambato decided not to seek reelection and let Ana continue in 2022 his unfinished work.
“Pagtutuunan namin ng pansin ang kabuhayan ng mga tao at ipagpapatuloy ang mga programa ni Mayor Liberato Santiago,” Ana said briefly after filing her COC at the old Abucay municipal hall.
Onor for his part said he is with a unified group whose aim is primarily for the good of the people of Abucay.
“Ang priority namin ay magplano para sa post-Covid para nakahanda ang pamahalaang bayan kung ano ang maibibigay na tulong sa mga pamilya na nawalan ng trabaho, sa mga nangangailangan ng tulong. Kailangan nakaplano ahead,” he said.
He emphasized that planning what to do after Covid–19 is very important.
“Magsasagawa kami ng post-Covid na plano kasama ang walong konsehal nang sa ganoon dire-dertso programa at hindi nangangamba ang mga mamamayan. Kailangan seguridad sa medisina, seguridad sa pagkain at pagkakaroon ng livelihood program,” Onor said.
The TV star said they will continue on ridding Abucay of the destructive floods. As a provincial consultant, he said he just received word from the Department of Public Works and Highways this Wednesday that their request for desilting and rehabilitation of rivers in Abucay was already approved.
To be desilted are rivers in barangays Mabatang, Calaylayan, Wawa, Omboy and Capitangan.
He said the housing project of the Department of Agrarian Reform for farmers in a land donated by Mayor Liberato and Ana Santiago is going on. “May bahay na, may trabaho pa ang mga benepisyaryo dito.”
“Mahalaga ang tulungan para sa magandang bukas ng Abucay,” Onor said.
