CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – One of the Dominguez brothers who have been tagged as masterminds in the recent gruesome murders of car dealers has sought police protection in Bulacan amid fears for his safety.
Central Luzon police director Chief Supt. Alan Purisima told Punto that Raymond Dominguez signed last Saturday a waiver that placed him under voluntary police protective custody of the Bulacan police.
“We are not yet hunting down the Dominguez brothers since no arrest warrant has been issued against them,” Purisima stressed.
He said, however, that he did not know where Raymund’s brother Roger was.
“We have not monitored their movements, as we are concentrating on building up evidences in the Lozano case,” he added.
A civic leader who asked not to be named appealed to Pres. Aquino to make sure that the alleged protective custody arrangement is not a mere ploy to hatch up a scenario to whitewash police coddling of carnapping operations of the Dominguezes.
“Maybe he feels his safety is under threat,” Purisima replied when asked why Raymund sought police protection. This, amid plans of the Evangelista family to leave the country amid continuing threats they have been receiving.
Purisima said murder charges filed before the Quezon City prosecutor’s office late last Saturday pertained only to the case of Venson Evangelista, the car dealer whose charred body was found in Cabanatuan City.
“In the case of car dealer Emerson Lozano and his driver Ernani Sensil, we still have no direct evidence and so we are piecing together the other evidences so far to make sure the case we file on the case will have no loopholes,” he said.
A raid on the two rented lairs of the Dominguez brothers last Friday night yielded a partially burned driver’s license of Evangelista. Police also found a 9mm. pistol that might have been used to shoot the victims before their bodies were found in different locations in Central Luzon after they were reported missing last Jan. 12.
Purisima cited the driver’s license of Evangelista was a major breakthrough only in the latter’s case.
The police earlier arrested Alfred Mendiola alias Bading and Batibot Parulan after they were reported to have surrendered themselves to the police. They later identified the Dominguez brothers as masterminds in the abduction and murder of the car dealers.
Purisima said that while Dominguezes have been tagged as masterminds in all the murder cases, the groups who carried out the theft of cars and the actual killing of their sellers were different. Because of this, cases would have to be filed separately, as the remains of the victims were also found in different locations in Central Luzon.
“So we can say that the Evangelista case has been solved, while we still have to gather direct evidences in the case of Lozano and Sensil,” he stressed.
Earlier, Malacañang expressed alarm over how Raymond was allowed to post bail 19 times for numerous cases of car theft filed against him.
