Death of top NIA official mourned in NE

CABANATUAN CTY  — Irrigation officials and employees in Nueva Ecija mourn the “untimely demise” of a top agency national official who had been “very supportive to both our personnel and farmers,” a ranking official said here Monday.

“Masyado pong nakalulungkot,” said National Irrigation Administration -Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System department manager Engr. Rosalinda B. Bote on the death of retired Gen. Romeo G. Gan, NIA deputy administrator for administrative and finance.

Gan who last visited this province, along with NIA administrator Ricardo R. Visaya for the opening of the  monumental solar-powered pumps projects in Peñaranda and San Isidro towns, died on Thursday.

“NIA-UPRIIS mourns with deep sadness. We salute the memory of a great leader with intellectual strength, genuine conviction and true commitment in public service,” Bote’s office also said in a statement.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1993,  Gan was appointed to the post on Sept. 18, 2017 owing to his expertise in leadership and management in administrative and finance aspects.

Earlier, Visaya said the entire NIA salute Gan for the “invaluable contributions to the lives of the Filipino farmers and the nation despite the challenges brought by the pandemic.”
