ANGELES CITY – Roundabouts – where weeds used to flourish, or in the best cases ornamentals are tended, the city government here has started to transform into vegetable gardens.

Vice Mayor Vicenta ‘Vicky’ Vega-Cabigting on Friday led the second of a series of planting activities in all rotundas in the city, this time in Barangay Ninoy Aquino.

The rotunda vegetable gardening project was launched last month by Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. himself, along with chief adviser IC Calaguas, executive assistant Reina Manuel, city engineer Donato Dizon, gender and development office OIC Mina Cabiles, and eco development and investment promotion office OIC Irish Bonus-Llego, planting of 200 organic vegetables seedlings in Barangay Pandan.

In Friday’s activity, 570 organic vegetable seedlings comprising okra, eggplants, and chili peppers were by Vega-Cabigting, together with employees of the sangguniang panlungsod and the city departments.

The established community gardens in the roundabouts are open for all Angeleños once they are ready for harvest.

It can be recalled that during the lockdown last year, Lazatin also distributed seeds to every household in the city as part of his Luntiang Barangay Lingap Program. The program encourages all Angeleño households to plant in their backyard and grow their own food.
