BALANGA CITY — Gov. Albert Garcia on Friday announced that based on a report from the Department of Health, six of the 12 cases of Delta variant of the coronavirus disease in the country identified Thursday are from Bataan.
The other cases are from Laguna – 2, Manila – 1, Pasig City – 2, and Taguig City – 1.
“Maghintay lamang ng mga susunod na anunsiyo mula sa pamahalaang nasyonal at mula sa inyong lingkod para sa mga karagdagang alituntunin upang masugpo ang pagkalat ng Delta variant sa ating lalawigan,” the governor said.
Garcia warned his constituents that the variant is more dangerous than the original Covid–19.
“Ang nasabing variant ay may lima hanggang walong beses na kakayahang kumalat at makahawa kumpara sa orihinal na variant kaya’t patuloy na pinaaalalahanan ang lahat na mas paigtingin ang pag-iingat at pagsunod sa mga nakalatag na basic health protocols upang maiwasan ang patuloy na pagkalat nito sa ating komunidad,” the governor said.
Garcia urged those scheduled for vaccination to go into the process.
“Muli, hinihingi ko ang inyong malawak na pang-unawa at patuloy na pakikiisa, lalo na sa vaccination program ng ating pamahalaan na naglalayong makamit ang herd immunity sa ating lalawigan sa lalong madaling panahon,” he said.
Garcia wanted herd immunity in Bataan by the end of October 2021.
Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, provincial health office chief, begged off to be interviewed reasoning out that the provincial Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and other agencies will still hold a meeting with representatives of DOH to discuss the matter.
Buccahan is vice-chair of the provincial IATF chaired by the governor.
She said that meanwhile, they are undergoing contact tracing of those who came in close contact with the carriers of the variant.
Vaccination at the Bataan People’s Center went on despite the bad weather. The spacious center almost filled in the morning for those receiving their second dose that thinned out in the afternoon.
Presently, Buccahan said there were 96,459 inoculated with the first dose and 53,247 with the second jab.
