Elderly woman killed by own brother

SAN JOSE CITY – A 69-year-old woman was shot to death by her younger brother at the height of an altercation over an undisclosed issue in front of a sari-sari store in Barangay Caanawan here at around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Police said Laureda Bermoza, resident of the said barangay, was killed by retired Army man Eusebio Tugas, Jr., 60, of the same village.

Investigation disclosed that the victim and the suspect who was reportedly drunk at the time engaged in a heated argument until the latter “took his short firearm from his house… returned and shot the victim successively.”

“The victim sustained gunshot wounds and was brought to San Jose City General Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival,” police reported.

The suspect was arrested in a follow up operation in Barangay San Andres in the adjacent Science City of Muñoz. Operatives have also recovered from him the murder weapon, police said.

He is now facing murder charges. 

Forensic investigators recovered from the crime scene six spent shells from a .45  pistol.
