The local government unit here continued its “Bayanihan on Wheels” for the third day Thursday distributing groceries and other food items direct to the sitios and villages in the agricultural town.

Aside from the common food rations of rice, canned goods, vegetables, coffee, sugar, and other groceries, the Team Aksiyon & Malasakit of the LGU on Wednesday handed out fresh tilapia direct to the villagers.

Thai company Charoen Pokphand Foods Corp. that has a feed plant in Samal donated 3,000 kilos of tilapia to the municipality that were immediately distributed to nearby sitios.

“Instead of having long lines of people getting food items, we decided to launch ‘Bayanihan on Wheels’ to give the food packs directly to the people right in their communities to avoid the spread of the coronavirus disease,” Mayor Aida Macalinao said.

She explained that the project was being implemented in coordination with barangay officials who identify those needing immediate assistance.

“The aim of the project is to help the communities to have food during the pandemic,” Macalinao said.

The mayor said the municipality has many donors from both government and the private sector. “Maraming salamat sa kanilang lahat at sana hindi sila magsawa sa pagtulong sa aming mga kababayan,” she said.
