Barangay Mabini Extension chair Myra Capinpin vegetable seedling for the village’s community “pan-tree.”
CABANATUAN CITY – Some 3,000 different vegetable seedlings turned hot potatoes, along with the bounty of food items, in the community pantry that was organized by officials of an urban village here in the last three days.
Barangay Mabini Extension chair Myra Capinpin said residents from other barangays, schools and police offices have also aired request for another batch of vegetable seedlings they found as sound source of food, especially during pandemic.
The seedlings, she said, were donated by Roel Escuadro who operates a nursery in this city. Interested individuals could readily get whatever seedlings they want to plant as the village themed its offer “magtanim ayon sa kakayahan, umani ayon sa pangangailangan.”
Capinpin believed the seedlings can benefit the residents even longer.
“Isa po sa mga mabubuting kalooban na binigyan po tayo ng mga punla upang ipamahagi sa mga tao para sila ay may maitanim at anihin,” she said, adding that several individuals have also contributed food items, including rice, groceries, fruits, vegetables, and eggs among others for the 3-day community pantry.
Barangay Mabini Extension is one of the most urbanized and populated villages here, being host to schools, government offices and business establishments.
“Napaka-importante, lalo na po ngayon sa panahon ng pandemic ang pagsi-share nila ng blessings. Marami pong mabubuting puso at kalooban na nag-share ng blessings nila na sobra-sobra,” Capinpin added.
Inspired by the Mahinhawa community pantry of Ana Patricia Non, community pantries have also sprouted in Nueva Ecija.
Elma Ruth Garcia, 53, said her husband who drives a passenger tricycle could hardly earn enough for their daily needs due limited movements of people as a result of quarantine restrictions. Thus, the community pantry had been a great help for them to make ends meet at least in the last three days.
“Malaking tulong yun dahil pandemic ngayon. Wala rin silang maisakay e kaya malaking tulong yung pantry na nangyari na yun,” she said.
Capinpin, however, stressed they exhausted all efforts to see to it that public health standards being implemented by the inter-agency task force against coronavirus disease 2019 were strictly observed at the community pantries.
