Irrigation agency honors women in agri

TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija – The National Women’s Month would not pass without the contributions of women in agriculture frontline recognized in the government’s irrigation agency.

Engr. Alvin Manuel, Sr., manager of the Division II of the National Irrigation Administration’s Upper Pampanga River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-UPRIIS), on Monday underscored the big roles being played by women in implementing government programs, particularly in serving farmers.

Thus, their office recently undertook a series of activities anchored on the national theme “Juana Laban sa Pandemya: Kaya!”

These included a film showing that showcased “the life of every Juana”  a program held at Hon. Antonio S. Nangel Hall.

“The celebration was aimed to highlight the empowerment of women as active contributors to and claimholders of development,” he said.

There was also the so-called pamper session where women employees were extended beauty treatment on top of cakes and roses offered by Manuel and Engr. Marvin Bustamante.

Manuel said that the Women’s Month Celebration will inspire and empower women to be agents of change to contribute in promoting gender equality and empowerment of all women. 

This will also create and facilitate platforms to discuss good practices, gaps, challenges, and commitments in pursuing gender and development to strengthen the implementation of the Magna Carta of Women, he stressed. 

Manuel cited UPRIIS officials led by department manager Engr. Rosalinda B. Bote, engineering and operations division manager Engr. Vivencia C. Dela Cruz, and administrative and finance manager Milca B. Cayanga as “examples of a good leader and gender is not a barrier.”

Division II women employees posted the NWMC sticker on their desks. They also took part in the lecture on Reproductive Health and Practical Prevention and Control on Covid-19 given by Dr. Isabel S. Gallardo of Talavera General Hospital.

All of these activities were conducted with utmost observance of the public health protocols being implemented by the inter-agency task force against Covid-19, officials said.
