CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Brighter street lights make safer roads, be it for motorists, commuters or pedestrians.

Keeping up with that truism, the city government here has started installing additional street lights along two of the city’s major thoroughfares and other key areas.

Initial targets of the city’s all-year-round illumination project are the Jose Abad Santos Avenue and MacArthur Highway, Lazatin Boulevard, Capitol Boulevard, and the downtown area.

City Engineer Anele David said they are pursuing a “pole-to-pole” scheme for the installation of street lights at a maximum distance of 40 meters between two units.

Using light-emitting diode (LED), she explained, the units will be brighter and power efficient compared to other light types.

Since 2020, the city government has been using energy-saving technologies for its illumination program while, for other main key areas, like public parks/plazas and the Civic Center in San Isidro, solar-powered lights are being utilized.
