GUIMBA, Nueva Ecija – At least 300 public school students received food packs and school supplies in a gift-giving activity jointly undertaken by the Philippine National Police and Donate Philippines, a non-government organization, in Barangay Manacsac in this northern Nueva Ecija municipality on Saturday.
PNP chief Gen. Camilo Cascolan said the gift-giving was part of the agency’s “Agarang Ayuda” program aimed at helping less fortunate people to cope with the effects of coronavirus disease pandemic.
“Ito yung mga pinanggagalingan ng mga food bank. Maganda nito ay may mga sponsor tayo, particularly the Donate Philippines headed by philanthropist Myrna Reyes as president and Gen. Crizaldo Nieves, director of Police Regional Office 2, as chairman,” Cascolan said.
“Ito ay pamimigay ng agarang ayuda sa sa mga tao lalong lalo na sa mga naapektuhan ng Covid,” he added. The group also extends assistance to flood and calamity victims.
“Yun namang maapektuhan ng mga sinasabi nating baha, saka mga kalamidad, meron din po kaming naka-prepare na mga pagkain na nakalagay sa aming mga food banks,” he said, explaining that food banks have been established in every police regional office.
Cascolan noted that the PNP delivered truckloads of food assistance to victims of Typhoon Rolly, especially in Region 5 that was heavily devastated by the weather system.
Central Luzon Police director Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon also joined the activity, along with Ms. Universe Philippines 2nd Runner-up Michelle Gumabao and her brother actor Marco who are both ambassadors of the youth’s anti-drugs and anti-terrorism organization Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo.
