SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija – A village councilman and his family survived a broad daylight gun attack by two unidentified men in at Purok 7, Barangay Tambo Adorable here Friday.

Police said Jerry Lopez, 55, an incumbent councilman of Barangay Magpapalayok here was driving a tricycle with his wife Yolanda and a 27-year-old daughter on board, when repeatedly fired at by the ridingintandem at around 10:20 a.m.

The victims were on their way home when the assault happened, police said.

“The suspects on board a black and blue combination Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle without plate number overtook the tricycle driven by the victim and shot the victim successively using a short firearm,” the municipal police reported to Col. Marvin Joe Saro, newly installed director of the Nueva Ecija police provincial office.

Luckily, no one was harmed,” it added, saying the suspects fled towards Barangay Tabuating also of this municipality.

Forensic investigators recovered from the crime scene one live ammunition for a .45 pistol, according to police report. A follow up investigation is still on going.

It was the second daytime attempt to kill an elected official in Nueva Ecija in three days. Mayor Arvin Salonga of San Antonio town was unhurt while his security aide was slightly wounded in ambush in Barangay Apo Esquivel, Jaen on Tuesday.
