ANGELES CITY
A Chinese national engaged in currency exchange was found charred beyond recognition inside a burnt sports utility vehicle in a remote area of Barangay Sapang Bato here Wednesday.

“The body of the victim was charred beyond recognition while the vehicle is beyond repair,” said Col. Joyce Patrick Sangalang, director of the Angeles City Police Office, adding that investigators were able to get breakthrough on the chassis number of the vehicle, registered to a rent-a-car firm, as to the identity of the victim

He identified the victim as one Feng Li Fu, a temporary resident of Cabruana Street, Rosewood Subdivision, Fil-Am Friendship Highway, Barangay Cutcut, Angeles City.

Two Chinese nationals suspected of being the perpetrators of the killing were arrested during follow-up operations in separate areas in this city and in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Sangalang named the suspects as Huang Zhi Gie and Yang Lu Lin, alias Aki. Huang was reportedly nabbed in this city while a crack team of investigators collared Yang at Alabang Southmall, Muntinlupa Citywhile waiting for a ride.

The police chief said a girlfriend of the victim whose name was not mentioned in the police report for security reasons positively identified the suspects as the persons who often visited her residence from captured images of a security camera along the Sapang Bato road past midnight of Aug. 13.

Police are looking at robbery hold-up as possible motive in the gruesome murder.

“The victim might have been set-up by the suspectsbeing engaged in money exchange. Posible na tinawagan at magpapalit ng yuan to peso kaya sumama ang biktima. Or puwede din na pinatay muna sa bahay ng girlfriend at saka isinakay sa SUV,” said Sangalang. The vehicle is a Toyota Fortuner.

From there, the victim was taken on board the vehicle and driven through Sapang Bato road to the remote area near the boundary of Porac town where it was doused with gasoline and set on fire, Sangalang said.

The suspects reportedly casually walked away from the scene past 2 a.m. Thursday and called for another rent-a-car to have them fetched some 500 meters away from the crime scene.

Investigators are combing the compound of the victim’s residence in search of the murder weapon.” It could be buried inside the compound, who knows?” said Sangalang.

Murder and carnapping charges are being prepared against the suspects, police said.
