CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – At least 18 teams are participating in the 2nd Gov. Lilia “Nanay Baby” Pineda Inter-town Basketball Tournament which opened on Sunday (May 6) at the Bren Z. Guiao gym here.
Defending champion Lubao town started on the right foot as they defeated Masantol in one of the three games on opening day. In the other two games, Mabalacat edged out Floridablanca, while San Simon beat San Fernando.
Board Member Cris Garbo said the two teams are separated equally in two brackets. The top two teams in each bracket will play in single round robin.
Then the top two teams for each bracket will qualify for the semi-finals. They will slug it out for the finals in a best-of-three championship series.
Garbo said it’s the firm commitment of Pineda and Vice Gov. Yeng Guiao to promote sportsmanship and unity with the staging of the 2nd leg of the Governor’s cup.
The only teams which failed to participate are the Mexico and San Luis towns.
