CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – All roads lead to this city from December 9 to 16 as it celebrates the 14th Sinukwan Festival.
Festival committee Chairman Engr. Marni Castro said the annual celebration had been moved to coincide with the Pampanga Day Celebration. It was earlier scheduled on the first week of December.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and Gov. Lilia Pineda are expected to lead the major events lined up for the annual festival.
Dr. Elita Flor Umali, member of the 2011 Sinukwan committee, said they had started to highlight the old Spanish churches in Pampanga to give historical significance to the festival. They will start with the half-buried San Guillermo Church in Bacolor, Pampanga.
For his part, Castro said they will also feature emerging festivals in other towns in the province. One of which is Minalin’s Aguman Sanduk Festival.
Among the events are street dancing, food and arts exhibit, grand parade, various competitions and “Prinsepe at Prinsetita ning Sinukwan 2011.”
The Sinukwan Festival’s themed this year is “Pakamalan… Pasulungan… Kulturang Kapampangan.”
The festival is an inspiration of “Ing Sinukwan of Mt. Arayat,” the demi-god believed to be the source and essence of the strong but high spirited Kapampangan character.
City Administrator Fer Caylao and businesswoman Tess Laus graced the press conference before the start of the festival next week.
