STO.TOMAS, Pampanga – The municipal government here will implement the “no segregation, no collection” policy next week as it stepped up a campaign to follow rules set by the solid waste management law.

Mayor Joselito “Jun” Naguit said they will refuse to collect unsegregated wastes in seven barangays of this town starting April 7.

“We appeal to all sectors, especially the media, to help us disseminate this vital information,” Naguit said.

He said they started the dry run on the waste segregation scheme last week.

“It has minimal success on the dry run,” said the two-term mayor. He disclosed that he recently met barangay officials for the proper implementation of the Republic Act 9003, or the Solid Waste Management Act.

Naguit said they have started to use the material recovery facility (MRF) in Barangay San Matias.

He said the municipal government used to run the MRF with the help of the parish pastoral council.

Naguit said they allotted someP2 million for the waste management of this town which produces about 8 tons of garbage daily.

“We are lucky to produce not so big volume of waste which makes it manageable,” he said.
