ANGELES CITY – “We have faith in the city.”
Thus said Australian businessmen Ron Wakley and his brother Kevin as they opened the 48-room extension of the Wild Orchid Hotel in Barangay Balibago here on Saturday. They co-own Wild Orchid with Ron Blim and Tom Buckland.
Kevin said the developments at the Clark Freeport, notably the increasing flights at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA), had convinced them to invest more amid the global economic crisis.
For his part, Ron said the Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) “contributed immensely to the developments in Pampanga.”
“Businesses are booming and we believe that we haven’t seen the best yet. Five to 10 years from now, our rooms will not be enough to accommodate the guests,” added Ron disclosing that Wild Orchid now has at least 103 rooms. They also own the nearby Orchid Hotel that has 86 rooms.
Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC) Executive Vice President Alexander “Alex” Cauguiran said there are at least 55 international flights per week at the DMIA.
“There will be more, including seven new flights to Thailand. One of the new destinations is the island-paradise of Phuket,” said Cauguiran, who was invited by Kevin to attend the inauguration.
The Wakley brothers lauded Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno for providing them a “reliable” Business One-Stop Shop (BOS). They added that “acquiring the necessary permits was a breeze at the BOS.”
City Administrator Mark Allen Sison, who represented Nepomuceno, said they had designed the BOS to release the permits within the same day after the filing of the application.
“It takes three days to finish the permits in some cases because we make actual inspection of the area. Some are erring traders who say they only have three workers when they have 50 hotel rooms,” he said.
Sison and City Treasurer Juliet Quinsaat led the ribbon-cutting during the opening of the hotel’s extension.
