BALER, Aurora – Wanted: Books for three new courses offered at the Aurora State College of Technology (ASCOT) in this capital town.

ASCOT President Dr. Eusebio Angara disclosed that they need books for the tourism, hotel and restaurant management and fisheries courses.

He said that groups based in Switzerland are set to send the books they need before the year ends.

Aurora lone district Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara, on the other hand, gave some P100,000 for the purchase of the said books, said Dr. Angara.

“But we still need more due to the fast-growing number of students at ASCOT,” said Angara. He said their school was established in 1994 through the efforts of Sen. Edgardo Angara with some 300 students.

Today, Dr. Angara added, ASCOT has some 1,800 students. At least 1,000 of the total number belong to the three new courses.

Dr. Angara said they have an extension in Casiguran town offering fishery and agriculture courses.

“We also need books at our extension office,” said Dr. Angara.

Dr. Angara said Sen. Angara and his sister, Aurora Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo, had prioritized education in the Central Luzon province named after the wife of former President Manuel Quezon.

“Almost all of our students are scholars of the Angaras,” he said.

Dr. Angara said ASCOT has 11 departments with 44 faculty members .

“We are also short of teachers in both campuses in Aurora and Casiguran,” said Dr. Angara.
He disclosed that the government through the prodding of Sen. Angara had given seven teachers to ASCOT.

“We were the only ones given new teachers in all of the state colleges in the entire Region III last year. We are thankful but we still need more as more students are expected to enroll at ASCOT,” said Dr. Angara.
