ANGELES CITY – Now on 5th straight year, the Rep.Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin open basketball tournament goes on at the L and S Subdivision in Barangay Sto. Domingo here.
At least eight teams participate in the at the subdivision’s covered court. Lazatin was represented by his son, Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin, in the opening program last week.
The younger Lazatin disclosed that his father had given an initial P130,000 to the tournament. He added that P100,000 will be given to the champion team.
“Rep. Lazatin has supported the league primarily to promote sports and camaraderie. He also wants the youth to stay away from illegal drugs,” said Lazatin.
IC Calaguas, chief of staff of Lazatin, said the first-term solon had supported the tournament since he was city mayor. She added that the league had been handled by over-all chairman Pancho Garcia.
“It has been held once year. Either summer time or October as the case this year,” said Calaguas.
In the opening game, Roel’s Hotdog mangled EdPam, 92-64. Melvin Bangal of Water Splash won the three-point shootout contest held during the opening.
The participating teams are EdPam (Edgardo Pamintuan), Roel’s Hotdogs, Water Splash, DG Cubacub, Salamin ng Masa, Fontana, Atty. Brye Nepo and D’ Original Manok’s Fried.
The other members of the organizing team are Melvin Gonzales, former Sto. Domingo Barangay Captain Lito Caparas, Rene Dizon and Arnold Labausa.
