ANGELES CITY – “I will work for legislations allowing more funds for an expanded college scholarship program.”

Thus said Salapungan Barangay Chief Robert Yeen as he announced his plan to run for councilor in the 2010 elections.

A long-time history teacher at the Holy Angeles University (HAU), Yeen said he had supported free quality education since becoming a Kabataang Barangay chairman in 1985.

He had allotted a portion of his barangay’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) share to fund his scholarship projects.

“I have been helping poor but deserving students since my first term as village chief. That was the time that running for councilor had not crossed my mind yet,” said the two-term barangay chief, who recently finished his masteral degree in public administration at HAU.

“I simply believe that education is the only permanent solution against poverty and other forms of chaos in society,” added Yeen, who joined other Liberal Party (LP) members when Sen. Noynoy Aquino proclaimed his intention to run for president last week.

Yeen said that the “next city government should provide modern hospital equipment such as dialysis machines in public hospitals.” He added that he will work for job generation and low-cost housing for the people once elected councilor.

A political science and law graduate, Yeen will join the team of mayoralty aspirant Balibago Barangay Captain Rodelio “Tony” Mamac.

Yeen and Mamac vowed to support the candidacy of re-electionist First District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.
