ON DECEMBER 24, 1941, President Manuel L. Quezon transferred the seat of the Commonwealth Government to Corregidor island at the entrance of Manila Bay following the invasion of the Philippines by the Japanese.

It was in Corregidor where President Quezon and Vice President Sergio Osmeña were inaugurated into their second term.

Located between the provinces of Cavite and Bataan, Corregidor’s strategic location, network of tunnels, array of defensive armament and strong fortifications were the reasons why many enemy operations aspired to get hold of the island.

Corregidor now serves as a memorial to the valor, heroism and courage demonstrated by the Filipino and American defenders of the island fortress against the attacks of the Japanese invaders during World War II.
